Just like in a library: A posthumous novel by Carlo Sgorlon

This contribution examines the latest novel by Carlo Sgorlon, completed on June 24, 2008, but published posthumously, ten years after author’s death: L’isola di Brendano ( Brendano’s Island). The book introduces character types dear to Italian writer: Mac Finnegan, a hard-working and creative architect of Irish origin, who comes from abroad Vallorsaria, an imaginary town in Alps, where he falls love with Antonia, local woman; Antonia’s young daughter, Jole, gives birth boy endowed extraordinary powers: Bindo; Afghan baby sitter, called Fatma, joins three above mentioned characters, forming them strange happy family; friend, Amos, represents man incapable positive attitude towards life destined for tragic end. With Brendano, Sgorlon paid homage literary tradition considered most genuine, close familiar him. In it is possible identify many references, both explicit implicit, various writers, including Samuel Beckett, Nathaniel Hawthorne Elsa Morante. this way, resembles mirror small well-chosen library.
